Warbirds - navy machines

Douglas AD-4-NA Skyraider

One of the heaviest piston-engined single-engined carrier-borne attack aircraft ever built, the Skyraider came too late to see action in World War 2. It gave sterling service, however, in both the Korean and Vietnam wars.

The aircraft pictured in the top picture is preserved in flying condition at La Ferté airfield in France, while the one below is active in Belgium as OO-FOR.

Grumman TBF Avenger ZK-TBM (top picture), now re-registered as VH-TBM (other pictures)

This torpedo-bomber, currently owned by Australian warbird collector Randal McFarlane, used to carry the US Navy Bu.No.91110 and will be repainted in Pacific War Theatre US Navy colours.

Grumman F7F Tigercat

Designed during the second World War as a shipboard long-range fighter, this heavy twin engined machine came too late to see action in this conflict. It was put to good use however in the Korean War during the fifties. It became famous as a two-seat night fighter. Its military career over, some examples were civilianized and entered service as flying firefighters. Just a few remain today, and they are prized warbirds indeed.

Vought F4U Corsair

One of several historic aircraft preserved at La Ferté airfield in France, this beautiful Corsair is fully airworthy.
